Poorly managed time leads to you being poorly prepared, becoming flustered, and stressed. This can often be a trigger for your anxiety induced fight-flight response kicking off at the start of a meeting, a talk or any event that requires you to be on your game. This combination of poor preparation and a fight or flight driven elevation in cortisol will shut your brain down completely. Your mind goes blank. Basic information that you know that you know simply isn’t coming to you. Anxiety consumes you. Managing your time efficiently and effectively is a great way to eliminate this trigger.
Reduce your clutter. Eliminate your need for physical possession and in turn, declutter your mind.
Our society is driven by consumerism. The want for excess. Bigger meals, a bigger house, more clothes, handbags, cars, toys. STUFF.
The want for these things pushes us to work more so we can spend more. The desire to keep up with the Joneses raises our stress levels. And the Joneses aren’t the family next door anymore. They are every person on Instagram. Every person with new shiny things that we are encouraged to want.
Finding happiness through the acquisition of stuff is impossible. The happiness, if any, that you get when you buy that new thing is fleeting. It doesn’t last. It’s like crack to an addict. Once the high wears off you are left feeling empty but wanting more. The craving is insatiable.
Removing these consumer driven social values will have a positive effect on your headspace. Remove the material possessions that provide you with no value. As you remove the clutter from your physical space, you will remove the clutter from your mental space a well.
Increase your skill set. Open our mind to new ideas. Experience new parts of life.
Many veterans find they are highly motivated when they are in the military. They have a purpose and they have their whole career ahead of them to follow that path towards a purpose.
When we leave the military we often feel the exact opposite. We lose our purpose. We feel like our best days are behind us and it’s too late to reinvent ourselves.
Civilians encounter the same obstacle when they hit 30. We teach our kids that they can do anything, become anything. Then we hit 30, haven’t reached our target of becoming a millionaire, astronaut, ______ fill in the blank. Now society tells us we are an adult. But we don’t have our shit in one sock. We feel like it’s too late to start a new career, new sport, new purpose. We put off achieving our life goals and sit on autopilot as our life passes us by.
The personal growth section of the app is all about growing who you are. Learning new skills, setting the bar high and finding new purpose in life.
Get out of your comfort zone. Executing every activity in this app requires discipline. You are going to get uncomfortable while you strengthen your mind muscle and improve our discipline.
Short term hardship is required for long term success and happiness. Our current society is built around comfort. It has moved humans from being survival focused, to being comfort focused. This comfortable environment allows us to become overweight, lazy, sedentary and depressed. And it diminishes our ability to deal with adversity.
All of the programs in this app are going to test your discipline. Every daily task requires you to switch from comfort mode to survival mode.
“It’s raining outside, I’m not going to the gym”. OR. “I can’t be bothered cooking, I’ll just get uber eats”. OR. “Its the middle of winter, I’m not having a cold shower”
The comfort monster has a strong grip on our decision making process. We must fight the urge for instant pleasure and comfort. Long term positives require short term hardship.
What many of us are missing in life is our tribe.
Humans are tribal animals. While many of us are introverts who enjoy our alone time, we need to be spending time in our tribes of people with similar interests in order to connect and grow.
Many of the activities in this app are designed to be done with a buddy. For safety and for mental development. So, I want to draw your attention again to the support forum in the app. This section allows you to post forum messages to look for other people in your area who want to train, travel, adventure, keep accountable with you. It allows you to search for health related businesses in your area, health food restaurants, gyms, yoga studios, etc.
